Hop On Hop Off Bus Sightseeing

We took our time getting up this morning, we are exhausted from all our early morning starts.

Our bus was the Greenline, the worst one! It was so long between buses.

We drove through the city viewing the Colosseum, Circus Maximus, the Roman Forum, places we had visited previously.

Our first stop was the Bascillica Di Santa Maria and the Vittorio Emmanuel Monument. The church was very old and had tombs of saints and priests under the marble floor. The memorial was truly spectacular, made of marble. The soldiers guarded the external flame and the tomb of the unknown soldier. Once again there were many steps to climb and I mean many. The view over the city was worth it.

Our next stop was Castel Sant Angelo which was an imposing structure that was originally built as a mausoleum for emperor Hadrian and still house his and his family’s remains. It has been used as a fortress/stronghold and many Popes added to it over the years. Pope Jone Paul III lived here. We enjoyed the history and the way this castle was built. The self guided tour was easy and the view from the top fantastic!

We soldiered on to our last stop the Spanish Steps where we decided drinks at a rooftop bar overlooking the steps were in order. One bottle of Prosecco turned into two. We then had dinner at a little trattoria called Leonardo’s. They had an excellent gf/df pizza for me. Ira ordered Hawaiian. What arrived at our table was a surprise!
